On Monday, June 24, the Newton Democratic Ward Committees within State Representative Ruth Balser’s 12th Middlesex district invited the three candidates running for that seat. More than 80 people attended.

An enthusiastic crowd of more than 60 people filled the Women’s Club in Newton Highlands on June 11 as Dr. Greg Schwartz officially launched his campaign to succeed retiring State Rep. Ruth Balser, who has endorsed him.

Balser released a video statement on Monday morning endorsing former Newton City Councilor Greg Schwartz for the seat she’s held since the 1990s.

Leading with the slogan, “Let’s Put a Doctor in the House,” Dr. Greg Schwartz announced that he is running for the Democratic nomination to succeed Ruth Balser, the current representative for the 12th Middlesex District, who has announced her plan to retire at the end of this year.

“I am excited for the opportunity to serve the voters of Newton and Brookline as State Representative, in a role that allows me to bring the perspective and experience of a practicing physician and former city councilor to policy making,” Schwartz said in announcing his candidacy.
